Sources say Courtenay Valenti is close to a deal with Amazon.
Courtenay Valenti, a seasoned film executive, has found her next position. According to reports, a deal with Amazon is imminent for the former Warner Bros. employee. A key position at the MGM film studio, which has been vacant for months, is anticipated to go to Valenti.
The end of October will mark Valenti’s departure from her position as head of production and development, Warner Bros. said on Sept. 2. She worked for the company for 33 years, advancing to her current position under previous studio president Toby Emmerich.
After Emmerich left his position as part of the Warner Bros. Discovery merger and Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy joined MGM to lead Warners, she left her position.
Following De Luca and Abdy’s departure from MGM, Jennifer Salke from Amazon was given control over the film and television output of the established studio. In a $8.5 billion deal last March, Amazon acquired MGM, giving the e-commerce behemoth the rights to Creed and the James Bond (through Eon) franchises.
The Lego Movie
The Lego Movie, four Harry Potter movies, Mad Max: Fury Road, and other movies were overseen by Valenti while she worked at Warner Bros. Valenti is the daughter of the late MPAA president Jack Valenti. She recently managed numerous projects, including Furiosa, George Miller’s planned Fury Road sequel, Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, Elvis, Barbie, and The Color Purple.
